How I Started:

I have always been interested in art and photography. I can remember my first camera, it was a blue 35mm film point and click. I took that camera everywhere and probably took over 1,000 photos with it.

I originally started out my photography business doing pet portraits, and thought I wanted to be just a pet photographer. I was asked to do family portraits for a friend and I have never looked back.

About Me:

I'm Ashlea, the owner and photographer for soYork Photography. I grew up in upstate NY in the small town of Pulaski.

I graduated from Cornell University in 2007 with a bachelors in Animal Science, and then went on to work at an animal hospital in the Hudson Valley for 6 years.

I  currently work at The Hotchkiss School, in the Health Center full time during the school year.   I have three amazing kiddos, Jack, and my twin girls Charlotte and Sophie.

I have been married to my amazing husband for nine years and we have been together for sixteen years.

If you book a session with me you can be assured I have plenty of experience with animals and kids. I am very patient, and will try an array of things to get your family to smile, I will even break out fart noises if necessary.

A session with me starts with traditional poses, and then I also like to have non posed and more natural photos. I'm not afraid to lay in the mud or get into the water to capture photos for you.

The Business:

I consider myself very lucky to be a Hudson Valley Photographer, with all the spectacular places to take photos. I currently live in the small town of Pine Plains and hope to one day have my own studio. For now, I love and I am willing to travel to the many beautiful locations around NY to take photos. I am very excited to now be able to have portable backdrops and lighting so that I can set up in the comfort of your own home
